Union notes from Union / Management Meeting

Present –Michael Abraham, Dennis Cecere, Peggy Codding, Peter Cokkinias, Marti Epstein, Danny Harrington, Margaret McAllister, Jeff Perry, Wendy Rolfe, David Scott, Jackson Schultz, Will Silvio, and Jeri Sykes. 

Management – Larry Simpson, Kari Juusela, Chris Kandus-Fisher, Betsy Newman, Joe Bennett, Andy Vores, Jordan Pettis

1.     Larry opened the meeting. Chris Kandus-Fisher is here to discuss Diversity and Inclusion. We discussed the preferred name concept in regarding to LGBTQ and international students. The preferred names appearing on OL, etc. Students identifying in different manners is an evolving process, pronoun use, etc., bathroom use and signage are being addressed to be inclusive.

We discussed disabilities and access at the college as well.

2.     Betsy Newman is here to discuss Student Enrollment and Engagement. Two areas merged – Student Affairs and Enrollment to break down the silos and make things more helpful for the students. We discussed the merging of the areas and where we are headed. We also discussed the new technology of integrating computer systems as well.

Minutes from Union Executive Committee Meeting

Present – Michael Abraham, Dennis Cecere, Peter Cokkinias, Marti Epstein, Rich Grudzinski, Danny Harrington, Margaret McAllister, Jeff Perry, Wendy Rolfe, Jackson Schultz, David Scott, Will Silvio and Jeri Sykes.

Guests: Rebecca, Pierre, John, and Mary from BoCo Dean’s Council.

  1. Danny made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting. Rich seconded and the vote was unanimous to accept the minutes.
     
  2. Jackson welcomed our guests and we discussed the Dean’s Council and their role at BoCo as a conduit of communication between management and faculty, similar to a faculty senate – mainly advisory. We discussed BoCo coming into our union and the major issues involved.
     
  3. We discussed the election and the nominations meeting coming April 4 at 1 pm in 150/402.
     
  4. During a trip to Atlanta, a group of student’s had their car broken into with many items stolen. The college is working on replacing some items and we are interested in helping support them. We are looking into details.
