Minutes from Union Executive Committee Meeting

Present – Prince Charles Alexander, Dennis Cecere, Peter Cokkinias, Marti Epstein, Rich Grudzinski, Danny Harrington, Jeff Perry, Wendy Rolfe, Jackson Schultz, David Scott, and Jeri Sykes.

1. Danny made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting. Jeri seconded and the vote was unanimous to accept the minutes.
    
2. Jeff presented the budget and we discussed at length. Marti made a motion to accept the budget. David seconded and the vote was unanimous to accept the budget.
    
3. Jackson met with Larry last week and discussed the merger of the BoCo faculty into our union. We discussed at length.
    
4. Roger Brown is doing the state of the college next week Nov. 17 in DFRH.
    
5. Board of Trustees meeting is in the works for the spring meeting.
    
6. Evacuation plan for 1140 was discussed. Jackson made a motion to appoint Wendy to represent the union at the next meeting. Marti seconded and the vote was unanimous.
    
7. We discussed the short-term disability plan at the college. The college may have made a change without discussing with the Union, if so, this is an unfair labor charge.
    
8. All faculty meeting is in the works.
    
9. We discussed the possibility of making Union T-shirts.
    
10. Team teaching was discussed – we are in support of this.

Present – Michael Abraham, Dennis Cecere, Peggy Codding, Peter Cokkinias, Danny Harrington, Margaret McAllister, Jeff Perry, Wendy Rolfe, David Scott, Jackson Schultz, Will Silvio, and Jeri Sykes. 

Management – Larry Simpson, Jay Kennedy, Darla Hanley, Kari Juusela, Camille Colatosti, Cathy Young, Neal Donohoe, Joe Bennett.

1. Larry opened the meeting.
    
2. Peer comparison report – Camille Colatosti. The data is from IPEDS, public information on-line that is two years old due to the info coming from the government. Some peer info is from the entire school and not just the music program (UNT, Oberlin, Rochester, e.g.) due to the public information available.

We discussed the report at length.

• IPEDS Full time equivalent – equal to FT load – 12 credits or more
• Every PT faculty member has to be counted as 1/3

1. Danny made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting. Dennis seconded and the vote was unanimous to accept the minutes.
    
2. David and Danny are taking over the Union News and turning it into a blog. They will be making weekly installments with our main focus to bring faculty together leading into the bargain next summer.
    
3. We discussed the merger of BoCo faculty into our Union. Jackson is meeting with Larry tomorrow with the idea of getting the process started as soon as possible prior to bargaining next summer.
    
4. We are working on setting-up another meeting with the Board of Trustees.
    
5. Rumor of possible curriculum changes in the core were discussed. A Bachelor of Music degree still has certain requirements. Another possibility – computer as a principle instrument?
    
6. Department meetings were discussed. There is a contractual obligation.
