Minutes from All-Faculty Budget Meeting

Present UEC – Michael Abraham, Prince Charles Alexander,Dennis Cecere,Peggy Codding, Peter Cokkinias,Marti Epstein, Danny Harrington, Helen Lewis, Margaret McAllister, Jeff Perry, Denise Pons, Stephanie Reich, Wendy Rolfe, Jackson Schultz, David Scott, Elizabeth Seitz, Will Silvio, Tom Stein, and Jeri Sykes.

  1. Jackson opened the meeting.

  2. Jeff presented the budget. After discussion we called for a voice vote and the vote passed with one opposed.

  3. We discussed new language to be ratified at length. We called for a vote to ratify the new language and the vote passed with one opposed.

Minutes from Union Executive Committee Meeting

  1. Danny made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting. Marti seconded and the vote was unanimous to accept the minutes.

  2. We discussed AFT-MA conference this weekend. Denise will be joining Danny, Wendy, and Jeff. We also discussed the election for AFT-MA president.

  3. Faculty member that was threatened with losing benefits after TCA ended before Medicare kicks in has been given benefits to bridge the gap.

  4. Representatives from the student government are here. We discussed course evaluations by students, timing, notifications, etc. They agreed that not getting grades until evaluations are filled out is a good idea. More office hours would be a good thing. More facilities for office hours would also be nice. Faculty working conditions are student learning conditions.

  1. Danny made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting. Denise seconded and the vote was unanimous to accept the minutes.
     
  2. We are working on the survey for the chairs and deans. We will have it up and running this week.
     
  3. We discussed a faculty benefits situation at length; Jackson will talk with Roger this week to try and resolve.
     
  4. Danny discussed the conference in NYC this past week that he, Jackson, and David attended.
     
  5. The ETUDE group made a presentation on their history and their focus at the college educating faculty on diversity and inclusion and best practice teaching methods: Enhancing Teaching through Understanding Diversity and Equity. There is an Equity Partner program as well – faculty can become equity partners by attending sessions moderated by ETUDE. Currently, part-time faculty are not paid for the sessions but we will be working on this with management.
