  1. Larry opened the meeting. This is our first meeting of the spring with a rough ending to the fall. We are committed to make this community safe and secure for everyone. Roger and I have been attending department meetings throughout the college. We are looking at a series of activities that will help engage this work. We are proposing that we take a day – perhaps April 18 – to come together to discuss this as a community – no classes, attempting to get as many people together as possible. The goal is to get a common framework and a common understanding throughout the college. We will look at this and discuss options of getting people together (faculty, staff, students, for both Berklee and Conservatory). Part-time faculty will be compensated.

  2. The on-line Master’s Program was discussed at length with Debbie Cavalier and Carin Nuernberg. 20% discount for faculty and staff. Two majors – Music Production and Music Business, starting fall of 2018.

  3. We discussed the spring enrollment. This looks a little down now but the summer and fall look really good at this time. Overall, many classes were allowed to run with lower populations when they would normally have been cancelled in past semesters. We discussed the three-year contract at length.

  4. Larry will talk to Roger about the UEC meeting with the Board of Trustees or their Executive Committee.

Minutes from Union Executive Committee Meeting

Present – Michael Abraham, Prince Charles Alexander, Dennis Cecere, Peggy Codding, Peter Cokkinias, Marti Epstein, Danny Harrington, Margaret McAllister, Jeff Perry, Stephanie Reich, Wendy Rolfe, Tom Stein, Jackson Schultz, David Scott, Will Silvio and Jeri Sykes.

  1. Jackson opened the meeting. We have a full agenda so far this semester. We are working two grievances. One has been resolved for the most part. The other is in process – it is regarding the lower population at the college. There are many faculty losing classes and Jackson will be reaching out to the Deans and perhaps Chairs today or tomorrow. Our thought process is that full-timers should lose classes first and not hurt the part-timers, PT 3-year contract should get hours first.

  2. Windows were installed in private lesson studios throughout the college. The solution could be Venetian blinds or drapes for varying degrees of visibility. Some students and faculty find it very distracting to have people look in on their private lessons, and some students feel self-conscious. Security in regards to instruments in the room or active shooter scenario is an issue. Currently, there is no security officer in 7 Haviland; this needs to change.

  3. We are meeting with management February 5 to discuss the harassment language in the contract.

  4. We discussed the BoCo reps that we want to bring on the committee. We are working on checking with three faculty that worked on the bargain last summer.

  5. Danny is working on setting up a meeting on sexual harassment on campus – a three-hour meeting open to faculty, staff, and students. More details will follow regarding time and location.
